South Sudan rebels loyal to former vice president Riek Machar seized the key town of Bor on Thursday, the army said, as fighting continued following an alleged failed coup.
“Our soldiers have lost control of Bor to the force of Riek Machar late on Wednesday,” Philip Aguer, an army spokesman, said according to Agence France Press.

“There was shooting last night... we don’t have information on casualties or the displaced in the town, as operations are ongoing,” Aguer added.
Bor, located northern Juba, is the capital of the eastern state of Jonglei, one of the most volatile regions in Sudan.
